I first want to say thank you to everyone that tuned in tonight to Tyler Perry’s For Better or Worse. We love each & every one of you for your constant support & comments! Tonight’s episode, “When Jenny met Harold” was great to make but also very intense and so close to home. Whether folks want to keep it 100 or not, the truth is that there is a Jennifer/Harold situation happening somewhere, right now, as I type this. I made it a point to be on Twitter tonight during the episode and I watched the reactions and comments, and some made me laugh but many made me think that either folks are living in a bubble or they are way to quick to throw stones in a glass house. “How could she sleep with him on the first night?” How could he NOT tell her?” etc. etc. …So you really have NEVER been in a situation where your emotions took over your common sense? You’ve NEVER made a mistake? You’ve ALWAYS handled a situation the correct way EVERY time? Jennifer was merely a vessel for the message that AIDS & HIV are REAL! This disease is taking way too many of our men and especially our young women because just as I saw in some of the comments, folks would rather lie or deceive and spread it or go without knowing their status than face the judgements and criticism, if they told the truth or sought the truth. For my virgins out there, BRAVO baby!, and do all you can to hold on to that until you are married, but know that unless you marry another virgin, somebody needs to get tested before you consummate that marriage! But to my babies out there “getting it”, you can’t go by how he/she looks, or what they drive, or who they play for or any of that..you can only go by the results of the tests or getting tested together before you “dive in”. I remember back in college there was this chick that all the dudes thought was a DIME, the baddest thang walking on the yard, and cats was on it like flies to you know what..no one would’ve ever known she was lighting cats up with herpes because in their minds, she was too fine to have anything. I remember the dude in Jersey that was giving AIDS out like Halloween candy and when they finally caught him he admitted to probably infecting over 100 women ( homeboy laughed and said he lost count!) and when they asked him why, he said exactly what Harold said “The chick I caught it from didn’t bother telling me, why should I bother telling them!” I’m sure the women who slept with this man saw the tall,fit frame, the chocolate skin and the pretty smile and thought “he looks healthy”. We have to be smart babies, but we also have to stop judging and making it a BAD thing to know your status and be honest with people before sleeping with them. Stop throwing them stones and make it a good thing to know your status, ask the million dollar questions before you get busy or better yet get tested together..if they care about you no one will flinch. And if you still want to get it in out there when you feel like it, invest in a Costco membership and buy all the Trojans or Magnums you can! In this day & age, there is no more “I didn’t know”, only I chose “Not to know”.
